Walking in Nature

Walking in Nature

Walking in nature provides an opportunity to tune in to our senses.  Often we can become lost in thought or be somewhere else.  This mindfulness practice can help us to stay in the present moment and become more aware of what is around in nature

Firstly find a pace that allows your breathing to have a steady rhythm.  Then start to pay attention to each step.

Simply become aware each time your foot makes contact with the ground and how your weight is distributed across the different parts of the foot, then gradually becoming aware of the movement in your body.

Then in your own time turn your awareness toward your senses allowing each sensation to wash over you.

Touch: What do you feel – the air on your skin, hot, cool … how about the ground beneath your feet and your clothes as you walk?

See: What do you notice around you? Being aware of what is above as well as below you.

Smell: How do the scents change as you move along?

Hear: What can you hear? Letting the sounds come to you.

Taste: Are you aware of any taste?

You may like to stop and pause for a few moments to take in your surroundings with your senses.
